As a design engineer I did some serious study of ellipticals before dropping this much money on one. I have used numerous models in the gyms, particularly LifeFitness, and read numerous reviews. Now that I have bought and used this unit I find the reviews that tell you that the rear wheel designs are best are just behind the technology. This is easily the best elliptical I have EVER used because of its unique design. And the ergonomics are second to none. The controls for your stride length AND difficulty are in the moving handles (this is FAR more convenient for changing either!), as are the heartrate sensors. The handles move on a natural INWARD path and not in the unnatural parallel directions. The heartrate sensors on 90% of the ellipiticals are on a static second set of central handles. Much cheaper for them to make, but no benefit to you!
Unlike most ellipticals on the market, this machine does not support your weight on rotating linkage joints. And the motion of the handles is not confounded by your foot motion by being coupled to your footpads through linkage connections. Your foot pedals go back and forth (in a MUCH more NATURAL linear motion) on two linear roller tracks. At first blush this strikes you as significantly more uneeded complexity, but it is not. By holding your weight up on roller tracks the machine can decouple the task of supporting your weight from the task of providing the resistance. As a result the resistance is far more modulated. ALSO, there is an automatic setting where the machine will automatically adjust your stride length as it senses you "running" slow (shorter) or fast (longer stride.) The handle resistance can be controlled independently of the foot resistance, so your upper body workout is completely independent of your leg workout. And the problems to automatically vary both in preselected programs will water your eyes. DEFINETELY the best product of its type out there.
